The starting pitching market reportedly got a little thinner on Thursday, as the Kansas City Royals appear to have reached a deal with veteran southpaw Bruce Chen, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Chen, who turns 37 in June, authored a 3.27 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 15 starts and 19 relief appearances for Kansas City last season. A 15-year veteran, Chen earned $4.5 million in 2013.

Chen has spent the last five seasons with the Royals, functioning as both a starter and reliever, and owns a 4.32 ERA (97 ERA+) since 2009, averaging 6.1 strikeouts and 2.9 walks per nine innings.
