The Reds agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran infielder Chris Nelson on Sunday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.
“I think it’s a great opportunity, especially being in the National League,” Nelson told Thomas Harding, also of MLB.com. “I have a chance to be a utility man, and with the double-switches there could be a chance for playing time. It could be a good fit for me.”
Nelson, who's spent parts of four seasons in the major leagues, logged 64 games in 2013, spending time with the Rockies, Yankees, and Angels. The 28-year-old managed a .600 OPS (64 OPS+) with 12 extra-base hits in 227 plate appearances, and received the bulk of his playing time at third base.
