Report: Braves agree to minor-league deal with Freddy Garcia

The Braves reportedly added an experienced candidate on Friday to compete for a spot in the rotation this season, re-signing veteran right-hander Freddy Garcia to a minor-league deal, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Garcia, who turned 37 in October, made six appearances for the Braves during the latter stages of 2013, crafting a 1.65 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP over three starts and three relief appearances. The veteran also started Game 4 of the National League Division Series, yielding just two runs on eight hits and two walks over six solid innings of work.
Garcia, a 15-year veteran, will likely compete with oft-injured righty Brandon Beachy and southpaw Alex Wood for a spot in the back of Atlanta's rotation. Beachy made just five starts season amid complications following Tommy John surgery while Wood, entering his sophomore season, could become a full-time reliever in 2014.
