According to FOXSports.com's Jon Morosi, the Chicago White Sox are close to locking up free agent reliever Scott Downs.
Downs split the 2013 season between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves, where he totaled another strong season in his productive 12-year career to date. He fashioned a 2.49 ERA in 68 total appearances with a career-best HR/9 rate of just 0.21.
Morosi's colleague, Ken Rosenthal, is reporting that the deal will cost the south-siders approximately $4 million for one season with a vesting option for a second.
