Angels' Washington blames Guillorme for bunt failure
Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington blamed infielder Luis Guillorme for a failed bunt in the eighth inning of Tuesday's loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
"He didn't do the job," Washington said postgame, per Bally Sports West. "It wasn't anything I did wrong. He didn't do the job. I would've rather went to the ninth inning with a 6-6 lead than have went to the ninth inning the way we did. It didn't work out."
Guillorme attempted a squeeze play with the bases loaded and one out but missed, resulting in an out at home plate. He struck out later in the at-bat.
Guillorme took responsibility for the play.
"(JoJo Romero) made a good pitch. I didn't get it down," Guillorme said, according to The Athletic's Sam Blum. "I've got to try to put a bat on it. That's it."
The Angels acquired Guillorme from the Atlanta Braves on May 9. The 29-year-old has four hits in 15 at-bats with the Angels.
