King Felix likely out 3-4 weeks with shoulder bursitis

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez is expected to miss the next three to four weeks with bursitis in his right shoulder, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.

Hernandez was forced to leave his most recent start against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday with tightness in his throwing shoulder. Initial reports suggested he'd miss between two and three weeks, and now it appears that it may be worse than that.

Right-hander Chase De Jong, called up on earlier in the week, will start on Sunday in Hernandez's spot in the rotation.

In addition to Hernadez, the Mariners lost outfielder Mitch Haniger in the same game with a strained right oblique. Like Hernadez, Haniger is expected to be out three or four weeks. Haniger, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of the Jean Segura for Taijuan Walker trade, has arguably been the team's most valuable hitter with a .338/.442/.600 slash line through 21 games played.

Though the Mariners are winners of two straight, they sit at the bottom of the AL West standings with a 10-13 record.
