Tier 1

Rank PLAYER TEAM POSITION TREND
Mike Trout LAA OF1
Paul Goldschmidt ARI 1B1
Jose Altuve HOU 2B1
Nolan Arenado COL 3B1
Kris Bryant CHC 1B2/3B2/OF2
Mookie Betts BOS OF3
Anthony Rizzo CHC 1B3
Clayton Kershaw LAD SP1
Manny Machado BAL SS1/3B3
Josh Donaldson TOR 3B4
Bryce Harper WAS OF4
Carlos Correa HOU SS2
Charlie Blackmon COL OF5
Max Scherzer WAS SP2
Corey Seager LAD SS3
Trea Turner WAS 2B2/OF6
Starling Marte PIT OF7
Miguel Cabrera DET 1B4
Madison Bumgarner SF SP3
Noah Syndergaard NYM SP4

Sleep on Harper at your own peril. His monster spring should be enough for him to be taken in the first round, or just at the beginning of the second. His 2016 was a disappointment, but everyone knows what he's capable of at his best. Seager's back issues are concerning, though he doesn't warrant a steep fall. Marte drops more due to Blackmon's insane spring numbers. If you miss Blackmon, snag Marte.

Edwin Encarnacion CLE 1B7
Giancarlo Stanton MIA OF8
Xander Bogaerts BOS SS4

A.J. Pollock ARI OF12
Jonathan Villar MIL 2B6/SS5/3B6
George Springer HOU OF13
Francisco Lindor CLE SS6

Yelich outperformed Stanton at the World Baseball Classic, hitting .310 compared to his teammate's .227. Yelich led Team USA with four doubles, too. Yelich has the higher batting average ceiling, but Stanton is one of the few players who could hit 60 home runs and not have it be a surprise.

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Stephen Strasburg WAS SP9
Jon Lester CHC SP10
Wil Myers SD 1B9/OF14
Yoenis Cespedes NYM OF15
Nelson Cruz SEA OF16
Adrian Beltre TEX 3B7
Johnny Cueto SF SP11
Jose Abreu CWS 1B10
Dee Gordon MIA 2B7
Andrew McCutchen PIT OF17
Yu Darvish TEX SP12
Chris Archer TB SP13
Gregory Polanco PIT OF18
Justin Verlander DET SP14
Hanley Ramirez BOS 1B11
Trevor Story COL SS7
Matt Carpenter STL 1B12/2B8/3B8
Jose Bautista TOR OF19
Chris Davis BAL 1B13
Masahiro Tanaka NYY SP15

Tanaka has not allowed an earned run in 18 2/3 spring training innings. It may be unwise to put too much stock into spring results, but Tanaka isn't exactly coming out of nowhere. He was lights out in 2016, going 14-4 with a 3.07 ERA and 7.44 K/9 over 199 2/3 innings. His command will keep his WHIP low, and while he won't go the season without allowing a run, he could easily be a top-10 starter.

Rank Name Team Position TREND
David Price BOS SP16
Justin Upton DET OF20
Billy Hamilton CIN OF21
DJ LeMahieu COL 2B10
Carlos Carrasco CLE SP17
Rougned Odor TEX 2B11
Buster Posey SF C1/1B14
Evan Longoria TB 3B9
Todd Frazier CWS 1B15/3B10
Jason Kipnis CLE 2B12
J.D. Martinez DET OF22
Carlos Martinez STL SP18
Eric Hosmer KC 1B16
Troy Tulowitzki TOR SS8
Zack Greinke ARI SP19
Ian Kinsler DET 2B12
Adam Jones BAL OF23
Albert Pujols LAA 1B17
Kenta Maeda LAD SP20
Aroldis Chapman NYY RP1

Injuries to Price, Martinez, and Kipnis are not serious enough to drop them too far down your draft board, but it's worth noting that you'll need to weather early storms if you take any of them. Keep an eye on their status. If any of them drop too far below initial expected draft positions, you could snag a top option at their respective positions on the cheap.

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Kenley Jansen LAD RP2
Zach Britton BAL RP3
Adam Eaton WAS OF24
Mark Trumbo BAL OF25
Cole Hamels TEX SP21
Ian Desmond COL OF26
Craig Kimbrel BOS RP4
Mark Melancon SF RP5
Jose Ramirez CLE 3B11/OF27
Jonathan Lucroy TEX C2/1B18
Wade Davis CHC RP6
Roberto Osuna TOR RP7
Jose Quintana CWS SP22
Gary Sanchez NYY C3
Matt Kemp ATL OF28
Danny Salazar CLE SP23
Kyle Hendricks CHC SP24
Kyle Schwarber CHC C4/OF29
Khris Davis OAK OF30
Julio Teheran ATL SP25

Desmond's unfortunate injury can't be ignored. Like some other spring casualties, his value on draft day takes a hit, but he should be back before the end of May. Don't reach for him, but if he's still on the draft board in the 10th round, he's worth a stash.

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Carlos Santana CLE 1B19
Alex Bregman HOU 3B12/SS9
Jean Segura SEA 2B13/SS10
Aaron Sanchez TOR SP26
Jackie Bradley Jr. BOS OF31
Stephen Piscotty STL OF32
Dustin Pedroia BOS 2B14
Marcell Ozuna MIA OF33
Rick Porcello BOS SP27
Felix Hernandez SEA SP28
Marcus Stroman TOR SP29
Danny Duffy KC SP30
Edwin Diaz SEA RP8
Adrian Gonzalez LAD 1B20
Michael Brantley CLE OF34
Ken Giles HOU RP9
Anthony Rendon WAS 3B13
Lorenzo Cain KC OF35
Seung Hwan Oh STL RP10
Gerrit Cole PIT SP31

Don't be surprised if Stroman surpasses Sanchez as the most alluring pitcher in Toronto's rotation. Stroman was electric at the WBC, and is poised to bounce back after an up and down season. He doesn't have Sanchez's strikeout upside, but he isn't far off.

RANK NAME TEAM POSITION TREND
Kevin Gausman BAL SP32
Michael Fulmer DET SP33
Andrew Miller CLE RP11

Brandon Belt SF 1B21
Addison Russell CHC SS11

Miguel Sano MIN 3B14/OF38
Hunter Pence SF OF39
Justin Turner LAD 1B23/3B15
Elvis Andrus TEX SS14
Maikel Franco PHI 3B16
Aaron Nola PHI SP36
Matt Harvey NYM SP37

Harvey's stock should keep falling. While he won't fall off draft boards entirely, his spring numbers have not eased concerns that he's not ready. The one area that is encouraging is his command. Harvey has only walked two batters in 12 1/3 spring innings. He's also allowed 18 hits and 10 earned runs. Baby steps.

Ranking Name Team Position Trend

Yasmani Grandal LAD C7
Steven Matz NYM SP41
Salvador Perez KC C8
Jeurys Familia NYM RP14

Perez has seen his batting average decline steadily since his rookie season, and he struck out a whopping 21.8 percent of the time in 2016. He will still be valuable at a perilously thin position, but the wear and tear of playing 130-plus games a year behind the plate may be catching up with him.

Tier 9

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Dallas Keuchel HOU SP42
Jameson Taillon PIT SP43
Adam Duvall CIN OF45

Jonathan Schoop BAL 2B17
Tony Watson PIT RP15

Jeff Samardzija SF SP46
Drew Smyly TB SP47
Alex Colome TB RP16
Kole Calhoun LAA OF46
Ben Zobrist CHC 2B18/OF47

Melky Cabrera CWS OF49
Carlos Gomez TEX OF50
Jose Peraza CIN 2B20/SS18/OF51
Julio Urias LAD SP48

Be careful with Bird. His excellent spring and starting job off the bat will have opponents favoring him during the draft, and will perhaps try to reach a few rounds earlier. Wait on him. He could be the steal of the draft, but he may stumble hard. You're gambling with upside.

Tier 10

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Brian McCann HOU C9
Starlin Castro NYY 2B21
Hunter Renfroe SD OF52

Nomar Mazara TEX OF53
Robbie Ray ARI SP53
Jharel Cotton OAK SP54
Randal Grichuk STL OF54
Cody Allen CLE RP17
Carlos Beltran HOU OF55
Francisco Liriano TOR SP55
Lance McCullers HOU SP56
Byron Buxton MIN OF56
Travis Jankowski SD OF57
Sam Dyson TEX RP18

There's always plenty of movement at the bottom of rankings, like at the end of drafts. This is where you should reach a bit. Ask yourself what categories you need to strengthen. Jankowski could be a solid stolen base option in the late rounds while Cotton may excel in his first season as a starter - he was recently named the A's third starter. Don't feel too attached should any of these options struggle early.
