Ichiro visits training room for 1st time after outfield collision

To call Ichiro Suzuki durable is an understatement.

The 43-year-old Miami Marlins outfielder has only been on the disabled list once during his 16-year career thanks to a bleeding ulcer in 2009, but Tuesday, his ability to stay healthy was put to the test.

Ichiro was involved in an outfield collision with teammate Brandon Barnes, and came up limping with a sore right knee and some discomfort in his lower back.

The collision also led to a milestone: Ichiro then visited the trainer's room for the first time in his career, according to Glenn Sattell of MLB.com.

"That was a little different for me," Ichiro said. "Some of the guys came in and took pictures with me, because they'd never seen me in the trainer's room."

After running into Ichiro, Barnes, a non-roster invitee, became the brunt of many jokes in the Marlins' clubhouse. He received a "You're cut" note from Dee Gordon that was personally autographed by Ichiro, and a few teammates packed up his belongings and left them in front of his locker.

"Hopefully this will make (Barnes) feel a little bit at ease," Ichiro joked. "I know he does feel bad (about the accident)."

Ichiro plans to see how he feels Wednesday before deciding on any next steps.
