Report: Dodgers shift focus to reliever after Forsythe trade

Richard Mackson / USA TODAY Sports

After months of trade speculation surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers' need for a second baseman, the team finally pulled the trigger on a deal Monday, acquiring Logan Forsythe from the Tampa Bay Rays.

With one need filled, the Dodgers are now turning their attention to another, with their sights set on adding a reliever, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal who reports L.A. has Joe Blanton and Jerry Blevins on their radar.

The Dodgers are likely to offer a one-year deal, unless better value emerges elsewhere, Rosenthal writes.

The Dodgers bullpen was tops in baseball last season as far as ERA, and appears to have most of the same players returning.

Projected bullpen

PLAYER G IP ERA WHIP SO
Kenley Jansen 71 68.2 1.83 0.67 104
Pedro Baez 73 74 3.04 1.00 83
Grant Dayton 25 26.1 2.05 0.76 39
Alex Wood 14 60.1 3.73 1.26 66
Chris Hatcher 37 40.2 5.53 1.50 43
Luis Avilan 27 19.2 3.20 1.12 28
Brandon McCarthy 10 40 4.95 1.38 44

Blanton was an integral member of the Dodgers bullpen in 2016, appearing in 75 games, while posting a 2.48 ERA to go along with a 7-2 record. The 36-year-old former starter has been linked to the Dodgers during the offseason, but has also drawn interest from the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins.

Over his 12-year big-league career, Blanton owns a 99-93 record with a 4.35 ERA across 376 appearances, 252 of which have been starts.

The 33-year-old southpaw Blevins appeared in a career-high 73 games for the New York Mets last season, fashioning a 2.79 ERA in 42 innings.

He's reportedly drawn interest from the Toronto Blue Jays as a replacement for Brett Cecil.
