Report: Astros void contract of prospect Cionel Perez

Jesse Johnson / USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros have reportedly nullified a contract with Cuban prospect Cionel Perez due to an issue with his physical, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, via Jesse Sanchez.

Houston was prepared to introduce Perez as early as next week after signing him to a $5.15-million deal in September - the most expensive contract given to a prospect in franchise history.

Perez was ranked as the fourth-best international prospect in 2016, according to MLB.com, and after signing he immediately ranked No. 13 on Houston's midseason prospect list.

The 5-foot-11 left-hander's fastball touches anywhere from 92-95 miles per hour, and he posted a circuit-leading 2.06 ERA during the 2014-15 season before leaving Cuba to sign with the Astros.
