Report: Red Sox exec Sawdaye joins D-Backs as assistant GM

Jake Roth / US PRESSWIRE

For the second time in a month, the Arizona Diamondbacks have hired an executive away from Beantown.

Boston Red Sox vice-president of international and amateur scouting Amiel Sawdaye will reportedly join the Diamondbacks as their new senior vice president assistant general manager, according to multiple reports.

He'd be reunited in Arizona with former Red Sox GM Mike Hazen, who was hired as the team's executive vice president and GM earlier in October.

Boston would not receive any compensation from Arizona for Sawdaye's departure, according to Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald.

Sawdaye was initially said to have been a candidate for the Red Sox GM job vacated by Hazen, but Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reported Monday that the club only offered him a promotion to assistant GM, meaning he would still be working under president Dave Dombrowski. Another report on Monday night suggested Boston may keep its vacant GM position open for the foreseeable future.

Report: Red Sox may not hire new GM

Sawdaye joined the Red Sox in 2002 as an intern and served in a variety of scouting positions with the club since then. He's been in high demand this offseason; in addition to offers from the D-Backs and Red Sox, Drellich reported that Sawdaye was also weighing an offer to join the Minnesota Twins.
