Toronto Blue Jays minor-league first baseman Jesus Montero has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for dimethylbutylamine, a banned stimulant in the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, MLB announced Thursday.

Montero's suspension will take effect beginning next season, as the 2016 minor-league season ended earlier in September.

The suspension is the second of Montero's career. The 26-year-old Venezuelan was previously disciplined in 2013 as part of the infamous Biogenesis investigation.

Montero had impressed with the Blue Jays organization since being claimed off waivers in March from the Seattle Mariners. He slashed .317/.349/.438 in 126 games with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, leading to him being named the club's MVP for the 2016 season.
