Report: Rangers still looking to acquire big-name ace
The Texas Rangers are still looking to make the biggest splash of the 2016 trade deadline.
Despite acquiring two hurlers in Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, the Rangers are still working on a trade to secure a big-name ace such as Chicago White Sox starter Chris Sale or Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Chris Archer, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The Rangers are also reportedly interested in second-tier pitchers on the market, including Rays starters Matt Moore and Jake Odorizzi, as well as San Diego Padres hurler Andrew Cashner.
Though Texas' rotation features established starters Cole Hamels and Yu Darvish, the club owns the third-worst team ERA in the American League at 4.45, a concerning mark for general manager Jon Daniels ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline.
Earlier reports in July indicated Texas was preparing a "serious effort" for Sale, though the club is reluctant to part with the hefty asking price of top prospects Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo.
