With their rotation in disarray, the Texas Rangers are reportedly open to a reunion with Kansas City Royals right-hander Edinson Volquez, who, in front of his former team's brass, threw six solid innings against Texas at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Though Rangers general manager Jon Daniels was, at one point, uninterested in acquiring an impending free agent ahead of this year's trade deadline, with his rotation decimated by injury, his position has changed. Volquez, who signed with Texas as an amateur free agent in 2001 and made his MLB debut with the Rangers four years later, is one such option.

"I think that's the only thing that's really changed is that I was hoping we wouldn't have to consider rentals," Daniels said. "I think if we had a healthy rotation, we'd only be looking at guys who are controllable past this season. (Rentals) would not be our preference, but we've got to be open."

Volquez, who turned 33 earlier this month, has been inconsistent this year, managing a 4.56 ERA while allowing at least eight runs in two separate outings, but the veteran owns a 2.87 ERA over his last five starts. Over the last three years, Volquez has crafted a 3.63 ERA (111 ERA+) with a 1.30 WHIP while averaging just 0.8 homers per nine innings.
