Tigers GM not anticipating any big deadline moves

Don't expect an aesthetically-pleasing trade deadline on paper for the Detroit Tigers.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Tigers general manager Al Avila foreshadowed the club wouldn't be involved in any major trades as the Aug. 1 deadline approaches.

"It's not going to be real sexy," Avila said, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.

A reason for the Tigers' passive approach this summer is in large part due to a barren market that has inflated prices on the scarce names available, even from team's simply looking to attain assets for a rebuilding process.

"I have been in contact with several GMs in sell mode," Avila said Saturday, according to Beck. "The asking price is too high right now, even for fifth starters."

Rather than attempt to find solutions outside the organization, Avila hopes starters Jordan Zimmermann and Daniel Norris, as well as slugger J.D. Martinez are the club's key "acquisitions" for the final stretch as the trio recover from their respective injuries.
