The Oakland Athletics announced Thursday they've agreed to terms on a deal with first-round draft pick A.J. Puk.

Selected sixth overall in the 2016 MLB Draft, Puk is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound left-hander out of Florida. He signed for $4,069,200, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis, which is his pick value.

Puk, who was widely considered the top prospect in this year's draft, is an imposing lefty who can bring the heat up to the mid-90s. His arsenal also contains a wipeout slider.

In three seasons at Florida, Puk owned a career 3.39 ERA, though he didn't ramp up his pitching until his sophomore year.

Entering college, Puk was also a first baseman. Although he logged 42 1/3 innings on the mound, he appeared in 40 games, batting .222 with three doubles.

Once his coaches figured out he was a pitcher only, he thrived, striking out a career-high 104 batters in his second year with the Gators.
