Back in 2013, only a few months before making his Pittsburgh Pirates debut, Gerrit Cole was rather self-deprecating about his abilities at the plate.
"Oh, I'm about as good as any random person would be," Cole told MLB.com's John Parker.
Untrue.
On Wednesday, the 25-year-old right-hander discredited that scouting report from a few years back during the second inning of his club's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, smashing a three-run blast off left-hander Patrick Corbin that sailed into Pittsburgh's bullpen at PNC Park, 409 feet away, according to Statcast.
Cole, who carried a 2.79 ERA into Wednesday's outing, is now one of just seven pitchers with multiple home runs since the start of the 2014 campaign.
