Jose Mourinho: John Terry a doubt vs. Tottenham

John Terry's inability to train Friday due to an ankle injury could pave the way for a new centre-back partnership during Saturday's match against Tottenham.

The Chelsea captain will be examined again Saturday and put through a late fitness test before a decision on who to deploy at the back is made, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed.

"I don’t want to say that it is impossible he plays because maybe he plays and people will say that I was hiding it and I am not hiding," Mourinho said. "Today he didn’t train but we have a little hope that it is possible."

Mourinho, however, isn't concerned about who will fill the vacancy at the back if Terry is unable to play.

"I have complete trust in Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma," he said. "Which is why in an important match for us on Tuesday I left Kurt out after good performances he is having to show Gary that confidence. They are ready."

Terry needed to be stretchered off the pitch after suffering the injury during Chelsea's Champions League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
