Harry Kane was recognised by the Professional Footballers' Association on Sunday after taking the Premier League by storm and being named its brightest new star

The Tottenham forward's spectacular start to his Premier League career earned him the distinction of being named the Young Player of the Year award.

“It is amazing. It is a very proud moment for myself and my family - hopefully the first of many to come,” Kane said after receiving the award.

“I have got to keep working hard, but to be recognised by your fellow players is something special and it is a night I wont forget.

“It is incredible, an incredible feeling.”

After demolishing opponents during European competitions to begin the season, Kane was finally given an opportunity to start for Tottenham's first team.

The 21-year-old didn't disappoint as he continued his dazzling scoring record against the Premier League's best. He's experienced a meteoric rise and leads the league in scoring with 20 goals through 24 appearances.

The English international came close to collecting the most prestigious award of the night, but finished as the runner-up behind Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, who won the PFA Player of the Year award.

Kane becomes the third Tottenham player to win the award in the last four years, and just the fourth overall since the inaugural presentation in 1974. Gareth Bale (2013), Kyle Walker (2012) and Glenn Hoddle (1980) were Tottenham's previous Young Player of the Year award winners.
