Now that Leroy Sane's participation at Euro 2016 is over, new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is apparently seeking a quick completion of a £40-million transfer for the 20-year-old.

James Robson of the Manchester Evening News understands that FC Schalke 04 is also keen to accelerate negotiations to free up funds for its preparations for the 2016-17 Bundesliga campaign.

The Sane pursuit follows the acquisition of Nolito from Celta Vigo and Guardiola's reported dropped interest in Borussia Dortmund's pacey poacher Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as Guardiola looks to add some fire power to his inherited attacking ranks.

The precocious Sane was introduced as a substitute in Germany's semi-final with France on Thursday, but his homeland fell short of a spot in the Stade de France showpiece due to a 2-0 loss.

Those 11 minutes represented the winger's only participation in the tournament, but he's been widely regarded as one of the country's greatest products for some time and has allegedly turned heads at Bayern Munich.

City chief executive Ferran Soriano revealed that the club was nearing two more signings last week, but hinted that they were delayed due to the players' participation at the European Championship.

"Two deals are close, the other deals are fairly advanced," he said. "Some players don't want to announce anything until they are finished."

Ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was the first signing of the Guardiola era, before Nolito was announced just four days after Spain's elimination from Euro 2016. Ukrainian teenager Oleksandr Zinchenko was also brought in from FC Ufa following his country's exit.
