Schalke beat out Europe's elite to sign Breel Embolo from Basel.

The Bundesliga outfit announced Sunday it reached an agreement with Basel to secure Embolo's services, with the Swiss international putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

While Schalke didn't disclose the transfer fee, reports suggest the club paid up to €25 million for the 19-year-old.

"In Breel Embolo, we have been able to bring in a highly talented attacker, who already has a lot of international experience and was also in demand at several other top European clubs,” Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel said.

The announcement comes a day after Embolo and Switzerland were knocked out of Euro 2016 when Poland emerged with a 5-4 penalty shootout win.

"Hello, fans. I'm Breel Embolo and I'm happy to be a Royal Blue," the young forward said.

"I'm still away at the European Championship at the moment but I'm looking forward to the new challenge ahead and playing for you guys, the fans. See you soon!"

Embolo - who was linked to a move to several of Europe's biggest clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona - failed to find the back of the net in France but managed to score 10 goals in 28 appearances with Basel last term.
