Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane said after Saturday's Champions League triumph that his attitude was key in helping Los Blancos capture an 11th European Cup in club history.

The French gaffer, who took control on the vaunted touchline less than six months ago, after the firing of Rafa Benitez, discussed his contribution to the team after Real defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties to win Europe's premier club competition for the second time in three seasons.

It wasn't his tactical adjustments or his pre-match speeches. It was all down to his outlook, the iconic former midfielder said.

"What I've brought is my positive attitude. We have quality, but hard work is even more important - and we've all worked."

Zidane also extolled the virtues of star attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, who, despite a poor performance over the 120 minutes of action, stepped up to fire home the winning penalty.

Club captain Sergio Ramos, who scored the opening goal of the match - which ultimately finished 1-1 before being decided at the spot - praised Zidane's role in the club's run to the title.

"Zizou is humbleness, hard work, and determination - that's what he's given us from the first day he arrived," said Ramos, who was named Man of the Match by UEFA.

He added: "This is a wonderful sensation - two wins in three years. It's a real prize for us, after a hard season. Winning it again, it's incredible. The sensation is unforgettable. It will always have a very special place in my heart."
